1. General information on Chemistry-Check
-
What do I get from Chemistry-Check?
With Chemistry-Check, you can find the right partner more easily because the check on the Internet replaces the human nose to sniff out the right partner. Using the four matching categories, "Perfect Match", "Good Match", "Average Match" and "Unfavourable Match", you can find people quickly and easily with whom the chemistry will match on the first date.
-
How does matching chemistry or a good match increase the probability that sparks will fly on the first date?
People notice intuitively and by the scent of the other person's body if they really like the other person. Chemistry-Check will also make a pre-selection for you based on chemistry.
-
Does a good match affect the relationship in the long term as well?
Scientific studies have shown that the chemistry in a relationship only works in the long run if two people also appeal to each other through scents recognised by the nose. Mutual attraction is thereby strong - this also has a positive effect on one's sex life.
-
Which other factors play a role when selecting a partner in addition to body scents?
Other factors are important in addition to matching chemistry, e.g.:
- Psychological properties (humour, values etc.).
- Socio-demographic properties (age, education etc.)
- Appearance
-
Can we do Chemistry-Check as a couple to check the chemistry between us?
No. Chemistry-Check is used where we cannot use our sense of smell, for example, for online dating. The two persons forming a couple have performed this test countless times with their own nose.
2. Scientific basis of Chemistry-Check
-
What does "matching chemistry" or "appealing to each other through the sense of smell" mean from the scientific perspective?
Two people match from a biological perspective because their immune systems enhance each other. Weaknesses in one's own immune system can be compensated for through the strengths of the partner and vice versa. It depends on the immune system how we smell and what we would like to smell. This interrelationship between the immune system, one's own sense of smell and our preferred scents allows us to check in our daily lives if a person matches us biologically. This is the case when I like the scent of my counterpart - a sign that the chemistry is just right. This is exactly where the basisnote test comes into play for a partner search. It measures proteins which are the major component of the body's scent.
-
How sound is this theory? Are there studies on this topic and what are the most important findings?
The basis is the results of the T-shirt study by Prof. Claus Wedekind in the 1990's at the University of Berne - also known as the "sweaty T-shirt study". Women smelled the T-shirts worn by the men and had to rate their scent. The results show that men smell all the more attractive the better both immune systems supplement each other. More extensive studies followed the T-shirt study. They have proven the positive correlation between a pleasant body scent of their partner and the quality of the relationship on several levels.
-
How was Chemistry-Check developed?
Chemistry-Check was developed and tested in close collaboration with the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH Zurich) and the University of Lausanne.
-
What does the basisnote test measure?
The test measures the amount of protein in the saliva. They are released through sweat and are what shape the unique body scent relevant to partner selection.
-
Does my chemistry type change over time?
The chemistry type remains constant over a lifetime. You only have to do the saliva test once and can then perform chemistry-checks with potential partners without restrictions.
-
Does Chemistry-Check also work for gay singles?
Yes. However, there are many more scholarly studies on the topic of body scent and partner selection in heterosexuals. At the same time, this does not suggest that chemistry check does not work for gay men and lesbians.
-
Does the birth control pill have an effect on the result of Chemistry-Check?
The Chemistry-Check is not affected by taking birth control pills. However, scent preferences by women who take birth control pills can change slightly. That means that the spark at a date may not be as great as expected at a date under some circumstances. Today's birth control pills have a weaker dosage than in 1995. Then Prof. Claus Wedekind determined in his T-shirt study that taking birth control pills can have an effect on the scent preferences in women.

-
Which matching qualities are there and what do they mean?
We distinguish between the four qualities "perfect match", "good match", "average match" and "unfavourable match". They will help you to estimate from the initial contact where hopes are justified or disappointments are pre-programmed. With a perfect or good match, you can assume matching chemistry. A perfect match can even encourage you to establish contact with this person, even if he or she does not seem correspond to your ideal in all other aspects. It works the same way with unfavourable matches: This most frequently results in disappointments during dates.
